I’m excited to announce that we are sponsoring the 2023 Vikes Alumni Senior Boys Basketball Invitational Tournament!

Clover Residential utilizes our Community Impact Fund to support organizations in our community. I asked Ole Schmidt, Co-Owner and Managing Broker (and resident basketball fanatic), about this event and why we’re sponsoring it.

Brian Interviews Ole

Brian: Why are we sponsoring this event?

Ole: My connection to basketball and youth sports. Youth sports are often underfunded. Tournaments like this allow high school players the chance to play at a high level, against great competitors in a 1st class venue like the UVic Gym. Personally, I have fond memories playing in tournaments like this, and we want to make sure other students have opportunities to develop themselves and are able to create life-long memories.

Brian: Why do you love Basketball?

Ole: I played basketball at SMUS from grade 6 to grade 12 under the mentorship of Ian Hyde-Lay. I then played basketball at Uvic for 3 years while studying to achieve my Bachelor of Science in geography with distinction. My years playing taught me discipline, worth ethic and teamwork. I had so much fun sharing success with others and made great friends (many still to this day). Sports teaches you how to set big goals and work smart to achieve them.

Brian: What’s your favourite NBA team?

Ole: Golden State Warriors

Brian: Who is your favourite player and why?

Ole: Steph Curry. He has a high degree of skill and flair but is a great teammate. I love his work ethic.

Brian: What was the last NBA game you attended?

Ole: Last year 2022 Golden State at Portland. I had a fantastic time!

Brian: Who are you cheering for in this tournament?

Ole: SMUS!

Go SMUS!

And good luck to all the teams participating in the tournament. We’ll see you there!
